the unopened gift page 2

the unopened gift page 2 by ric gustafson

Jeffrey opened up the leaf and waste bag and put in some leaves he had just raked. It was a beautiful fall afternoon in October. He wanted to get the leaves done before he went over to the church. After retirement, he spent a lot of his time helping out at Edgewood Lutheran Church. He helped with several projects including meals on wheels and serving meals at the local homeless shelter.
He watched as a brown UPS truck pulled up to the curb. He walked over.
The driver got out and put a huge box at Jeffrey's feet. " Sign here".
He signed the clip board. " That is a big box".
The driver smiled and got back into his truck. " It's the biggest box I've had today". He grinned and drove off.
Jeffrey picked up the box. He walked into the house.
He put down the box. He walked up to the large bedroom. His wife Monica was packing clothes into a suitcase.
" What happened outside?".
" The UPS driver dropped off a box".
" Can you open it?". She checked her purse for her plane ticket. " The cab will be here any minute".
" How long are you going to be gone?".
" Two months". She grinned as she looked into the mirror. " Not long".
Jeffrey went downstairs and opened up the large box. Inside was a decorative red box with a big red bow.
