Actress Billie Burke was born Mary William Ethelbert Appleton Burke on Aug 7 1884. Her father William was a circus clown with Barnum and Bailey. In 1903, Burke made her stage debut in the ' The School Girl'. In 1914, she married Florenz Ziegfeld Jr. In 1916, she had her film debut in ' Peggy'.
By 1932, the stock market crash of 1929 had hurt Burke's finances. To pay the bills, she worked steadily. In 1938, she was asked to play Glinda the Good Witch in the Wizard of Oz. After Oz, Burke appeared in films, a talk show and her own radio show.
Billie Burke passed away from natural causes at the age of 85.
