Production 1060: Bert Lahr by ric Gustafson
He was a cowardly lion in search of courage. Irving Lahrheim was born on Aug 13 1895. As a child, Lahr loved performing on street corners and pulling pranks. He dropped out of school at age 15 and changed his name to Bert Lahr. He debuted on Broadway in 1927. Lahr's film debut was ' Flying High' in 1931. Only Lahr was considered for the iconic role of the Cowardly Lion. After Oz, Lahr was in several stage productions including ' Waiting for Godot' and ' Foxy'.
Lahr died from cancer complications on Dec 4 1967.
