Homer Simpson was created by Matt Groening. Groening created Homer based on his father who was a cartoonist and a filmmaker. Homer's hometown was Springfield and he had a wife and three children. Groening created Homer to be the ultimate everyman only dumber. He works at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. The series the Simpsons debuted in 1989.
