My name is Ringo Starr

In the summer of 1958, I borrowed some money from my grandfather. I went down to Frank Hessy's Music Shop. I bought a single headed Ajax kit.

The first real rock and roll group in Liverpool was Rory Storm and the Hurricanes. I was playing in a group called the ' Darktown Skiffle Group'. After an audition, I was able to become the drummer of Rory Storm and the Hurricanes. We played all over the country and abroad. 

Without a car, I had to borrow some of my drum kit in order to play. One night, I had to drag my drum kit onto a bus to go home.

I knew I had to get my own car. A fellow drummer helped me get a Standard Vanguard for my first car. It was horrible to drive. I loved the car. It was painted red and white.

Luckily, I was born in Sep 1939. The army did not conscript me. I decided to give up my job as an engineer. I became a full time drummer with Rory Storm and the Hurricanes.
