Getting to know God is like getting to know a new neighbor. Suppose a new neighbor moves next door. What is your first impression of them?. You will probably ask them different questions to try and figure them out just a little.
Finding out who God is requires asking questions also. Like a new neighbor, over time you will find out more about God. The only way we can even start to get to know God better is to have a hunger and a thirst to know him.
The first place to have that hunger and thirst is God's Word. God's Word gives us an accurate picture of Almighty God. God reveals himself to us in 3 ways. In Genesis 1, God is revealed to us as our Great Creator. In the Old Testament, God is revealed as the perfect Judge. In the New Testament, God is revealed as the gracious Savior.
God the Creator of heaven and earth wants to have a personal relationship with us. He wants us to have joy and peace. We can know God personally because God is a personal spirit. God thinks, feels and wills. The truth is God loves us more than anything else.
