My name is Justice Anthony Kennedy

I was born in Sacramento California, At age 5, we moved to a new house on East Lincoln Avenue. The family used a large trucking company based in San Francisco. I went with my father to our new home in the front seat of that yellow truck. I remember vividly the date of the move. It was December 7 1941.

My father Anthony James Kennedy was born in Mullan Idaho. My grandparents John Xavier Kennedy and Anna Gorevin came to the US from Ireland. My grandfather died two years after my father was born. My father was the youngest of five boys.

My father graduated from high school in Spokane Washington. At 17, he came to San Francisco to work on the docks. My father graduated from UC Berkeley Law School. He moved to San Francisco and began working for California Governor James Ralph.

Then he met a young woman named Gladys McLeod. She became my mother.
