John and Carolyn had lived their married life in Tribeca. The neighborhood had movie stars, moguls, abandoned warehouse, seedy tenements and multi million dollar apartments. Most of all, John and Carolyn were getting tired of being hounded by the press. John was used to being in a media fishbowl. Carolyn had a harder time dealing with the tabloids.

Between their wedding in 1996 up to 1999, John and Carolyn 's marriage had been rocky. John wanted children right away. By 1999, Carolyn was seriously thinking about having children.

Carolyn's sister Lauren Bessette was finishing her work week. She was a young deal maker at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. She had just purchased an apartment just two blocks from John and Carolyn. She was also interested in one of John's cousins. His name was Robert Shriver.

John and Lauren worked on the evening's plans.
