Cyrus was born in Persis. His mother was the daughter of Astyages who was king of the Medes. Cyrus became the king of Persia. Persia was a powerful empire that dominated Western Asia and other areas for two centuries. He was a peerless ruler and a bold soldier. He was a tolerant monarch who recognized human rights. In 559 BC, he became head of the Persian dynasty. Within twenty years, he had started the greatest empire the world had ever seen. He allowed religious freedom everywhere in his kingdom.
Cyrus died in 530 BC fighting nomadic tribes. His kingdom lasted until Alexander the Great.
