Paul Simon entered kindergarten in the fall of 1946. PS 117 was in Jamaica Queens. Paul entered third grade at PS 164. Paul was described as well liked and smart. He had a tremendous imagination.
At PS 164 in 1951, Paul met Artie Garfunkel. Both of them were in the fourth grade. Paul right away loved the way Artie sang. Both young men enjoyed the same things. They were both clever and shared the same sense of humor. Both loved baseball. Paul really loved baseball.
Paul and Artie worked on their harmonies together. The first song they wrote together was a doo wop song. It was called ' The Girl For Me'.
Paul and Artie loved Elvis Presley. They loved his early songs done at Sun Records in Memphis. Paul and Artie tried to sing two part harmony like the Everly Brothers. They loved ' Wake Up Little Susie' and ' Bye Bye Love'.
