before Dorothy page 8 by ric gustafson
Emily looked the window of the motorcar. Dorothy was sleeping next to her arm. She looked peaceful. Emily knew her niece would need a new hat, new cotton dresses and a decent pair of boots. After a while, they stopped at the entrance to the Gale farm.
Emily woke up her niece. " Dorothy, we are almost there".
Dorothy looked out the window. " Where's the white picket fence?".
Emily pointed out the window. " Right over there dear".
" It's all alone Aunt Em".
" It's not alone".
" Where are the wild horses and the pretty wildflowers?".
The car stopped in front of a little clapboard house. The two got out of the car.
Dorothy studied the house. " It's very small".
Just then, a man came out. " Well, if it isn't the one and only Dorothy Gale".
Dorothy stared at Emily.
" Dear, that's your Uncle Henry".
