the end of Camelot page 3

the end of Camelot page 3 by ric gustafson

President Kennedy stared at a coconut on his desk. It reminded him of a time he needed great courage. In !943 in the south Pacific, Lieutenant John Fitzgerald Kennedy cheated death. Lieutenant Kennedy was the skipper of PT-109. Kennedy was 26, rail thin and tanned. During the war, Kennedy cheated death. Kennedy's older brother Joe was killed in Aug of 1944 when his experimental bomber exploded over England.
Less than 6 months after the war, John Fitzgerald Kennedy ran for Boston's 11th Congressional District. Kennedy knew he was an underdog. He recruited a fellow WW II veteran to be his campaign manager. His name was Dave Powers. Because of Powers and his dazzling campaign speeches, Kennedy was elected to Congress.
President Kennedy woke up around 7 each morning. He read the daily news in bed. Then he would look at a pile of briefing books. Then President Kennedy would eat breakfast in bed. This would include toast, bacon, eggs, coffee and orange juice. Then after a soak in the tub, he was in the Oval Office at 9:00 am sharp. There he spent time with his appointments secretary Ken O'Donnell to map out his daily schedule. Also present was Pierre Salinger his Press Secretary. The name of his Personal Secretary was Evelyn Lincoln.
