Born in the USA page 3

Born in the USA page 3 by ric gustafson

Bruce Springsteen's gamble paid off. When the ' Born in the USA' tour ended in October 1985, five million people had seen the show in 15 months. The album sold eight million copies in the US. It sold 12 million worldwide. T shirts, buttons and tour programs sold out. Springsteen was now being compared to two people he admired. That was Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan.
Springsteen speaks to all kinds of people with his music. His music speaks to men. ' Born in the USA' bridges generations and demographics. This makes Bruce Springsteen a centrist rock star.
In 1979, Hollywood screenwriter Paul Schrader wrote a screenplay called ' Born in the USA'. In 1987, the film is now titled ' Light Of Day'. Starring in it was Michael J Fox and Joan Jett.
In 1978, Springsteen's album ' Darkness On The Edge Of Town' did not do as well as expected. Springsteen did minimal press promotion for it. The album was dark and moody. In 1980, Springsteen comes out with a double album called ' The River'.
Compared to the dark songs of ' Darkness On The Edge Of Town', the songs of ' The River' are upbeat and happy. One example is ' Hungry Heart'.
