seasons of the heart:  Sufficient by ric Gustafson

According to II Corinthians 12:9, the Apostle Paul says that my grace is sufficient for you for power is perfected in weakness. In verses 7-9, Paul is talking about a thorn in his flesh. Jesus does not remove the thorn from us. Jesus's uses this thorn in our flesh for our good. He also uses this thorn in our flesh for his glory. Today's thorn will be tomorrow's rose. Praise God.

Proverbs 3: 5-6 says trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. It is easy to doubt when we can't see what's around the next bend. We can rest in God's faithfulness. We have choices to make every day. We must make decisions all the time. Will we trust God and lean on him?. God says trust in him. He will not disappoint us.

Heavenly Joy: joy through community

Heavenly Joy: joy through community by ric Gustafson

In Philippians 1: 1-11, the Apostle Paul writes to the small but growing church in Philippi. Paul had started the church ten years earlier. When he wrote the letter, Paul was in prison in Rome. He called himself a bond slave to Jesus Christ. Paul referred to believers as a community of saints. Paul stressed joy through a community of saints. Paul reminds us to love everyone the same. Paul stressed the fellowship in the gospel. Paul hoped that this growing church would grow in spiritual devotion. He hoped that the small church would grow in spiritual development. Paul also hoped that the growing church would grow in spiritual deportment.

Heavenly Joy: joy through adversity

Heavenly Joy: joy through adversity by ric Gustafson

The Apostle Paul in Philippians 1: 12-26 proclaims that Christ is preached and in this I rejoice. Paul wrote to the young church in Philippi while he was in prison. The church there was concerned about his welfare. Paul was now a prisoner in Rome. Afflictions came to Paul. He almost died at sea. He was spared from being beaten because of his Roman citizenship.
Paul was more concerned about the gospel instead of his own problems. According to Philippians 1:13, he was able to witness to his guards. Paul knew that his friends were praying for him. Paul was sustained in prison by the Holy Spirit. Paul was determined despite his adversity to maintain a Christ centered focus. Paul's adversity purified his motives. His adversities propelled Paul to see life and death in perspective.
