the birth of Jesus page 13 by ric Gustafson
On the eighth day of a Jewish boy's life, he is circumcised and named. It was likely performed by Joseph or a village rabbi. After the boy's thirty first day, he would be declared a firstborn by a priest. After forty days, the boy would go through the rite of purification.
At the Temple, the parents and Jesus were greeted by someone named Simeon. He was a just and devout man. He spent a lot of time in the Temple. He was influenced by the Holy Spirit. He was patiently waiting for the promised Messiah.
A woman named Anna was also at the Temple. She was a prophetess and descended from the tribe of Asher. Both knew that Jesus was the Messiah they were waiting for.
