" Don't kill it". Fern was crying. " It's unfair".
Mr Arable stopped walking. " Fern, control yourself".
With tears coming down her face, she tried to take the ax out of her father's hand.
" Fern, I know about raising a litter of pigs more than you do".
Fern kept crying. " But it's unfair".
" Fern, we're talking about a little runty pig".
" This is injustice Papa".
John Arable sighed. " Ok Fern".
Fern smiled. " You mean it".
" Go back to the house". He sighed again. " I will bring in the runt when I come in".
Fern gave her Papa a hug. " Thank you Papa". She ran into the house. As she was putting on dry sneakers, her father walked in. He put a carton on Fern's chair.
