My name is Howard Smith. Johnny Carson was my friend.
I enjoyed small talk and dinner with John Carson.
" Do you play golf?".
" I'm not much of a golfer". John's voice hesitated. " I do love to play tennis".
" Where do you play?".
" I usually play at Pepperdine University".
I smiled. " I heard you bought the home four doors down from me".
" Yes".
" I have a tennis court at home". I smiled. " If you would like to play, give me a call".
I got a call the next morning.
" Hey, this is John Carson". His voice hesitated. " We met last night".
" That's right at the party".
" Hey Howard good morning". His voice hesitated again. " Wanna play today?".
" Sure, come on over".
John came over. We agreed to play for fun.
" Howard, my friends call me John".
