the Reluctant Beatle page 26 by ric gustafson
Paul had found out the Maharishi Yogi was coming to England to lecture and recruit. Paul and Jane Asher, George and Pattie and John and Cynthia went to see him. The Maharishi had straggly hair and a black and white beard. John, Paul and George were so riveted to the Yogi, they pledged to make another trip to India and participate in a 10 day course in Bangor North Wales.
On a Sunday, the band was informed that their manager Brian Epstein had died. Epstein had become dependent on alcohol and sleeping pills. An inquest revealed his death was accidental.
When the band decided to once again think about recording, Paul came up with an idea. His idea was that the band would make another film this time crossing the country in a painted motor coach.
Paul named his film project the ' Magical Mystery Tour'. The band and forty some friends and extras would travel by motor coach through the West County like a mystery tour. George's only contribution to the soundtrack album was a song called ' Blue Jay Way'.
Paul's project was doomed from the beginning. The BBC showed the film on a peak viewing day after Christmas. Then all the Beatles traveled to India to spend time with the Maharishi. While there, Paul worked on new songs he had written.
