a great cloud of witnesses: Gregory of Nazianzus by ric gustafson
Gregory of Nazianzus was a Bishop of Constantinople and a Teacher of the Faith. The time of his life was the 4th Century. It was during a pivotal time in church history when God called a poet named Gregory. Why did God call him for?. God chose him to minister to the church. God equipped him with good friends to help him.
Gregory was the son of Greek landowners in Cappadocia. Both of his parents were Christian. Gregory wanted to be a poet and a scholar. While on a ship to Athens during a storm, Gregory dedicated his life to Jesus.
Eventually, Gregory and a friend Basil became bishops of the Cappadocians. Their hard work preserved and advanced the Christian faith through the use of the Nicene Creed. In his old age, Gregory became the bishop of Constantinople.
